Dr. Thomas Thompson

Research Fellow

As a qualified pharmacist, my research has always been driven by a fascination with the influence of microbes on health and disease. During my PhD, I explored how archaea affect bacterial quorum sensing, and surivial mechanisms of halophiles within Triassic Halite Mines.

Now, as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Queen's University Belfast, I continue to delve into the interactions between archaea and bacteria using a blend of bioinformatics (metagenomics, transcriptomics) and traditional metabolic techniques. My work has shed light on the antibiotic production capabilities of halophilic organisms and the function of archaeal MATE pumps in expelling clinically significant antibiotics.
